Waste-free world

Taking a stand

Plastic is a valuable material but there’s a lot of plastic pollution in the environment – some with our name on it – and that’s not okay with us.

Tackling our throwaway culture

It’s time to transform the way we use resources in our business and across society.

Human-made materials like metal, plastic and concrete now outweigh the earth’s natural biomass. There’s more plastic on the planet by mass than there are animals and marine creatures. Human activity is having an immense toll on nature and it’s creating mountains of waste material.

This has to stop. As a consumer goods company, we’re taking responsibility for the impact our business has, and we want to help shape a better waste-free future.

We’ve got to rewire the system – our economy, business models and behaviours.

Today’s take-make-dispose model means products are made, bought, used briefly, then thrown away. We must move away from this finite and linear approach to a restorative and regenerative ‘circular’ economy. One in which materials are kept in constant use as they flow around a ‘closed-loop’ system, instead of being used once and thrown away.

Take action

This is how you can get involved too. Take action on the issues that you care about and let’s make a positive difference to our planet and our society together.

By endlessly reusing resources in a circular system, we’ll cut our consumption and dramatically reduce our waste. Playing our part in a waste-free world means rethinking how we design our products and packaging.

We’re reducing materials right from the start, and making them easier to recycle or reuse. We’re developing entirely new business models to reach our consumers, such as product refill stations. We recycle or reuse almost all the non-hazardous waste from our own operations and we’re working to halve our operational food waste. Our Nutrition and Ice Cream brands are also helping to educate consumers and inspire them to waste less food too.

Together, we can build a better future where resources are never wasted.
